Akbank Jazz Festival: Imany

About the Event

A very valuable asset to today's soul music, Imany possesses an exquisitely pure voice. With a background in athletics and modeling, her musical journey started in the US. Growing up, her idols were Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Tracy Chapman – icons of jazz, soul and folk music. She returned home to France to continue her career in music and met Malik Ndiaye, a talented producer who has previously worked with Ayo and Grace. Her 2011 debut album, “Shape of a Broken Heart”, went platinum in three countries, gaining her a wide fan base in the process. She reached around 1.5 million people with the soundtrack she composed for the movie “Sous Les Jupes des Filles”, and thereafter set off on a long tour encompassing three continents. From love, women's rights and climate change to political struggles, Imany's lyrics touch on a variety of subjects. Her performance at the festival is sure to be a special one full of new songs that instill in listeners serenity, hope and sorrow all at once.
